I love processing my images to black and white. There are times when some images just lend themselves more visually to black and white than in colour. After tiding up my hard drive today i came across some old images from a friends wedding at the Rand Club in Johannesburg. She had asked me to take some photos from the day as she only hired her photographer for the ceremony and family shots. I of course said yes. So when i came across these today i thought perfect opportunity to play in Photoshop I’ve been using Adobe Lightroom for months now and every now and then will jump to Photoshop, but today i decide to process these completely in Photoshop. Its a simple process i use. I work with non destructive layers, I DE-saturate the image by bringing the hue/saturation tab all the way down, sometimes i wont completely and leave a bit of colour. I then work with the curves sometimes lifting the highlights or darkening the blacks. I might add a filter if i want to warm or cool down the image, then i generally sharpen the image using the high pass filter. Depending what type of effect i want to create, the more i process the image, I generally will only do this for creative licence.
